RUSSIAN BRAGGED TO USE FLYNN HAS INFLUENCE

Russian sources
bragged in conversations during the presidential campaign that they had cultivated a strong relationship with former Trump adviser retired Gen. Michael Flynn and believed they could use him to influence Donald Trump and his team, sources told CNN.

The conversations deeply concerned US intelligence officials, some of whom acted on their own to limit how much sensitive information they shared with Flynn, who was tapped to become Trump's national security adviser, current and former governments officials said.
"This was a five-alarm fire from early on," one former Obama administration official said, "the way the Russians were talking about him." Another former administration official said Flynn was viewed as a potential national security problem.

CYBER ATTACK HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

It's on track to be one of the biggest recorded ransomware attacks ever, with tens of thousands of infected computers in nearly 100 countries.
Friday's attack largely hit businesses and large organizations: UK hospitals, a Spanish telecom, FedEx, the Russian Interior Ministry. But how much do individuals need to worry about their personal computers being targeted?
Ransomware is a type of malicious software that takes over a computer and locks the user out, preventing them from accessing any files until they pay money. This particular program, called WannaCry, asks for about $300, though the price increases over time.
WannaCry takes advantage of a Windows flaw discovered by the NSA and made public by hackers in April. Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) did release a patch for the vulnerability in March. But computers and networks that didn't update their systems were still at risk.
On Friday, a security researcher inadvertently created a "kill switch" to help stop the spread of this ransomware. However, a hacker could rewrite the code to omit the kill switch and start trying to infect new machines with a new version of it.

NORTH KOREA SAY IT COULD LARGE NUCLEAR MISSILE

Korea said Sunday's test-fire of a ground-to-ground ballistic missile proved the missile is capable of carrying a large nuclear warhead, state news agency KCNA said in a report Monday.

The country's leader, Kim Jong Un, supervised the launch of the Hwasong-12 missile that reached an altitude of 2,111.5 kilometers (1,312 miles) and flew 787 kilometers (489 miles), KCNA said. That's higher and closer to Russia than other North Korean tests, according to US officials.

WHITE HOUSE NOT STRAIGHT WITH FIRING COMEY

White House can't get its story straight on why President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

Trump told NBC News on Thursday that he was going to fire Comey with or without Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's memo criticizing the director.
That statement contradicts at least 10 times Trump's top aides and advisers, including Vice President Mike Pence, tried to explain the how and the why the President decided to sack Comey. Tuesday's unceremonious move came amid the FBI's probe into Russia's role in the 2016 election and any connections the Trump campaign had to the hackers.
"I was going to fire regardless of recommendation," Trump told NBC. He added: "(Rosenstein) made a recommendation ... He made a recommendation, but regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey."

CHINA NEW WORLD ORDER

The tendrils of Chinese influence have been gradually wrapping themselves around the globe and the once closed-off Asian nation is emerging as a potential superpower. We explore five ways China is changing lives – with its financial clout and its influence on culture, education, travel and the military balance of power

EMMANUEL MACRON WINS FRANCE PRESIDENT RWCE

France's president-elect Emmanuel Macron has promised to "fight the divisions that undermine France," after defeating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen.

Macron has won 65.51% of the vote with 98.12% of polling stations declared, France's interior ministry said Sunday evening.
In a clear rejection of France's mainstream parties, voters have turned to the 39-year-old to help bring unity to a deeply fractured country.
